Depending on their role and competencies, staff may support with daily living skills, communication, personal care, community participation, health needs, emotional wellbeing and promoting greater choice and independence.
Learning disability support should be built around the individual. We match staff according to the person’s needs, communication preferences, desired outcomes, identified risks and required competencies.
Where required, this may include experience in autism, positive behaviour support, complex needs and alternative or augmentative communication approaches.
Appropriate checks include appropriate criminal-record and barred-list checks for the jurisdiction and role, Right to Work, references, employment history, training, experience and competency assessment, with NMC registration verified for RNLDs.
