About Us / Veterans & NHS Community
The name Veterans Healthcare Staffing UK reflects where we come from and part of the purpose behind our organisation.
We are veteran founded, and we recognise the experience, skills and contribution of people who have served in the UK Armed Forces and the NHS.
But our message is equally important:

You do not need to be a military veteran or former NHS employee to work with us, and organisations do not need a military connection to request staff.
Leaving the Armed Forces can mean moving from a highly structured working environment into an entirely different civilian career.
However, military service can develop transferable qualities that are valuable across health and social care, including:
Where an individual has the appropriate values and potential, we want to help them understand how their existing experience may translate into opportunities within health and social care.
Military experience alone does not make somebody suitable for healthcare work.
The individual must still meet the qualifications, recruitment, training, competency, professional registration where required, and compliance requirements appropriate to the role.
We also recognise people who have spent years working within the NHS and later leave permanent NHS employment.
They may include experienced:
Some may retire.
Some may want greater flexibility.
Some may reduce their permanent hours.
Others may simply want a different way of continuing to use their healthcare experience.
Where appropriate, Veterans Healthcare Staffing UK provides a route for experienced professionals to continue contributing their knowledge, skills and experience through flexible healthcare staffing opportunities.
Someone leaving the military or NHS may have accumulated years of valuable experience.
We believe that experience should be recognised while still ensuring that the person meets the requirements of their new role.
For an NHS professional, that may mean maintaining relevant:
For somebody transitioning from the Armed Forces into healthcare for the first time, the pathway may involve:
The route should depend on the individual.
Not every veteran will already have healthcare qualifications.
That does not mean healthcare is closed to them.
Depending on their experience, values, qualifications and training, potential pathways may include roles such as:
More specialist or professionally regulated roles require the appropriate qualifications, training, competencies and professional registration.
We will never present military experience as a substitute for healthcare competence.
Instead, we recognise the transferable strengths a veteran may already have and consider what additional development is required for the healthcare role they want to pursue.
Some Armed Forces veterans already have substantial healthcare experience.
This may include people who have worked within military healthcare, clinical services, rehabilitation or other health-related environments.
Where they meet the relevant requirements, they may be suitable for opportunities across areas such as:
As with every professional we supply, matching is based on the actual requirements of the assignment.
Healthcare professionals do not necessarily have to leave their permanent career entirely to work flexibly.
Subject to their existing employment obligations and availability, staffing work may provide opportunities for professionals seeking:
For people who have retired or stepped away from permanent employment, suitability will depend on their current registration where
required, compliance, competence and readiness to practise.
Our purpose extends beyond veterans themselves.
Our Veterans Healthcare ethos is centred on supporting:
NHS Veterans
The Wider Community
That means our veteran identity gives us a foundation and purpose, not a boundary around who can join us.
We welcome applicants from different backgrounds who can demonstrate the values, professionalism and competence required for healthcare work.
Being a veteran does not mean bypassing recruitment requirements.
Every applicant must meet the standards appropriate to their role.
That can include:
Our standards apply regardless of someone’s previous employer, rank, profession or background.
That is important both for fairness and for the people receiving support.
Whether someone comes from the Armed Forces, NHS, independent healthcare sector, social care or another background, we look for people who can demonstrate our expected approach.
And ultimately:
“Would I trust this person with my own mum?”
For some veterans, healthcare can provide an opportunity to continue serving people in a different way.
For experienced NHS professionals, flexible healthcare work can provide an opportunity to continue contributing valuable knowledge and experience on different terms.
For everybody else who shares our standards, the door remains open.
Veteran Founded. Open to Everyone.
Serving People. Supporting Healthcare. Strengthening Workforces.
