About Us / Quality & Compliance

Confidence Before Deployment

Healthcare organisations need more than people who are available.

They need confidence that the professionals supplied have been appropriately recruited, checked and matched to the requirements of the assignment.

At Veterans Healthcare Staffing UK, quality and compliance form part of the recruitment and deployment process — from initial application through to ongoing document and competency monitoring.

Our Approach to Quality

Our approach is built around a straightforward principle:

Recruit carefully. Check appropriately. Match intelligently. Monitor continuously.

For the staffing service, this means considering the evidence relevant to the worker, role, assignment, setting and jurisdiction before deployment.

Safer Recruitment

Our recruitment and compliance process may include, as appropriate:

Identity Verification

Confirming the identity of the applicant.

Right to Work

Checking that the person has the appropriate legal right to undertake the work offered.

Employment History

Reviewing employment history and exploring relevant information or gaps where necessary.

References

Obtaining and reviewing appropriate employment or professional references.

Criminal Record & Background Checks

Completing the appropriate checks for the role and jurisdiction.

Qualifications

Checking qualifications relevant to the position.

Training

Reviewing mandatory and role-specific training requirements.

Competency

Considering whether the professional has the appropriate skills and demonstrated competencies for the assignment.

Professional Registration

Verifying registration where the role requires it.

Training Is Not the Same as Competence

This distinction is particularly important to us.

A certificate demonstrates that training has been completed.

It does not automatically demonstrate competence to perform a healthcare task safely.

For specialist assignments, we therefore consider the competencies actually required for the work.

These may include:

  • Tracheostomy Care & Suctioning
  • Ventilation/NIV
  • CPAP/BiPAP
  • Oxygen Therapy
  • PEG/Enteral Feeding
  • Seizure Management
  • Catheter Care
  • Bowel/Stoma Care
  • Diabetes
  • Pressure Care
  • Medication
  • Palliative & End-of-Life Care

Requirements will depend on the particular role, service and individual being supported.

Registered Nurses

For nursing assignments, appropriate professional registration forms part of our compliance process.

Our nursing workforce includes:

  • RCN — Children’s Nurses
  • RGN — Adult Nurses
  • RMN — Mental Health Nurses
  • RNLD — Learning Disability Nurses

Where applicable, we verify Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration.

Registration alone does not mean that a nurse is suitable for every nursing assignment.

We also consider relevant experience, specialist skills, competencies and the requirements of the setting.

Safeguarding

Everyone working in health and social care has a responsibility to recognise and respond appropriately to concerns about abuse, neglect or harm.

We expect healthcare professionals representing us to understand their safeguarding responsibilities and to raise concerns appropriately rather than ignore unsafe practice.

That expectation also reflects the Courage element of our 6Cs.

Criminal Record & Background Checks

Requirements differ according to the role, regulated activity, workforce, setting and jurisdiction.

For eligible roles in England and Wales, this may include an Enhanced DBS check and relevant barred-list information where legally applicable.

Different arrangements apply in:

We therefore do not apply one England-based compliance statement indiscriminately across every location in which we operate.

Children & Young People's Services

Additional safeguarding considerations apply when professionals work with children and young people.

Depending on the role and assignment, checks may include:

  • Identity
  • Right to Work
  • Employment History
  • References
  • Appropriate Criminal Record/Background Checks
  • Safeguarding Training
  • Qualifications
  • Role-Specific Training
  • Competencies
  • Professional Registration

For children’s nursing assignments, we also consider the nurse’s relevant paediatric experience and competencies.

Our quality question becomes particularly simple:

“Would I trust this person with my own child?”

Complex & Specialist Healthcare

Complex healthcare requires more than generic recruitment.

Before matching a worker to a specialist assignment, we consider:

  • What does the person need?
  • What tasks will the worker undertake?
  • What competencies are required?
  • What evidence does the worker have?
  • Is the worker’s experience appropriate?
  • Are there client-specific requirements?

Someone may be competent in one specialist intervention without being competent in another.

We therefore avoid treating “complex care trained” as a single universal competency.

Assignment-Specific Compliance

A worker can have a compliant recruitment file and still not be appropriate for a particular assignment.

Some clients or settings may require additional:

  • Training
  • Competencies
  • Occupational Health Evidence
  • Professional Registration
  • Security/Vetting
  • Site Induction
  • Experience
  • Documentation

For example, requirements in a hospital, school, secure service, complex care package and supported living service may be different.

Our matching process considers those differences.

Compliance Does Not Stop at Recruitment

Documents, registrations and training can expire or change.

Compliance therefore needs ongoing oversight.

We expect workers to keep required information current and to tell us about relevant changes that may affect their ability or suitability to work.

Our systems should enable us to monitor areas such as:

  • Training Expiry
  • Professional Registration
  • Right-to-Work Restrictions where applicable
  • Background Check Information
  • Qualifications
  • Competency Records
  • Assignment Requirements
“We do not guess. We do not hope. We check.”

The M.U.M. Test Adds the Human Check

Compliance is essential.

But a compliant file does not tell us everything about someone’s values, attitude or behaviour.

That is why our compliance processes sit alongside The M.U.M. Test:

M — My Mum

Would I trust this person with my own mum?

U — Understanding

Do they understand the person, role, responsibilities and boundaries?

M — Maintain Dignity

Will they protect people’s privacy, dignity and respect?

UK & Channel Islands

Veterans Healthcare Staffing UK supports staffing requirements across:

Compliance requirements are not identical across these jurisdictions.

Where relevant, we consider applicable employment, professional registration, safeguarding, criminal/background checking, immigration/work permission and jurisdiction-specific requirements before deployment.

CQC Registration — An Important Distinction

Veterans Healthcare Ltd is registered with the Care Quality Commission for the regulated activity of Personal Care.

However, Veterans Healthcare Staffing UK is the healthcare workforce-supply arm of Veterans Healthcare Ltd.

Healthcare workforce supply is not itself a CQC-regulated activity..

Where we supply staff to another provider, that organisation retains responsibility for the management, supervision and delivery of its own service, subject to the agreed staffing arrangement.

This distinction keeps our staffing proposition clear and transparent.

Quality Before Deployment

Our approach can be summarised as:

RECRUIT

CHECK

ASSESS TRAINING & COMPETENCY

CLEAR COMPLIANCE

UNDERSTAND THE ASSIGNMENT

MATCH

DEPLOY

MONITOR

And throughout that process we continue asking:

“Would I trust this person with my own mum?”

Right Person. Right Skills. Right Setting. Right Match.

The MUM Test

“Would I trust this person with my own mum?”

M

My Mum

Your loved one first.

U

Understanding

Understanding always.

M

Maintain Dignity

Protect privacy and respect.
